6:00pm [6:30pm] Sea Lampreys of the Connecticut River
Description:
Sea Lampreys of the Connecticut River Join VT Fish & Game fisheries biologists Lael Will & Lee Simard to learn about sea lampreys along the Connecticut River. A sea lamprey is a parasitic fish with a boneless, scaleless, elongated body that has been around for 3.5 million years. It feeds off other fish using its unique mouth: a large oral sucking disk filled with sharp, horn-shaped teeth surrounding a razor sharp rasping tongue. Unlike the lampreys of Lake Champlain, these fish are native to Connecticut River and provide a number of ecological benefits. Lael Will will be discussing the fish's biology and life cycle. Lee Simard will discuss how VT Fish & Wildlife is managing its population in the Connecticut River. Don't miss this fascinating program!
