6:00pm [6:00pm] Speaking Truth to Power: Writing Political Commentary with Elayne Clift
Description:
Mark Twain was one. So was Martin Luther King, Jr, Molly Ivins, and Virginia Woolf. They all wrote political commentary, sometimes humorously, sometimes poignantly, sometimes fervently. This 2-hour workshop for emerging (ages 17-25) and other adults will strengthen writing skills needed to make a point, share an opinion or reflect on issues and current events that are important to the author without slipping into sentimentality, sounding confrontational, or slipping into sloppy arguments. We’ll look at examples of good political commentary and we’ll try our hand at one ourselves. So come with an idea, a burning issue, or a point of view about something in the news.
