Photographed from a wrapper of paper made in the paper mills at the "Forest" on Saxtons River, 1 1/2 miles from Bellows Falls.Bill Blake built the first paper mill in this vicinity in Alstead in 1799 and the first one ever in Vermont at Bellows Falls in 1802. Built this mil at the "Forest" about 1824. See sketch of his life in the History of Rockingham, p.299. Born 1774. Died 1856.
